NATURALLY PERFECT® WOOD PROTECTION
The Site Entrance Building at the Chalk River Laboratories in Ontario, which is managed by Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL), is one of the first federal government buildings built out of mass timber. Featuring mass timber as a sustainable building material is key in helping reduce the carbon emission footprint of the site. The building, one of three designed by HDR Architecture, serves as the new public face of CNL and also houses logistics warehouse operations. The building is part of a $1.2 billion investment by Atomic Energy of Canada Limited for new and renewed science and site support infrastructure at the Chalk River Laboratories. The structure is a post and beam system that supports cross-laminated timber slabs manufactured by Nordic Structures. The wood is protected with Sansin’s KP-12UVW, a protective undercoat that provides UV protection, enhanced water repellency, and helps with dimensional stability before, during and after construction.
