Located in Winthrop, Washington—a region defined by cold winters and hot, dry summers—the home is thoughtfully constructed to respond to both environmental demands and aesthetic aspirations.

To protect and preserve the exposed wood components, Sansin Precision Coat KP-30 in the colors Fawn 1208 and Blacksmith 1196 were applied as two coats, offering superior protection while maintaining the natural beauty of the timber. Nestled in the heart of Boston, the David Rubenstein Treehouse at Harvard University designed by Studio Gang, showcases a forward-looking approach to sustainable design. The 55,000 square foot structure pairs mass timber with innovative low-carbon concrete to create a serene, nature-connected environment. Its exterior is finished in Sansin’s WoodForce Pale Gray WF-01, a 0-VOC, naturally weathering wood treatment that delivers exceptional water repellency and protection from UV, moisture, and blackening. Pale Gray offers the wood a calming presence while transitioning into a naturally weathered look. Together, these elements present a model for healthy, low-impact building that sets a compelling example for Boston and institutions around the world.

Settled on North Pender Island, British Columbia, Clam Bay demonstrates a harmony between architecture, and nature. Designed by Blue Sky Architecture, this project conforms naturally to the lines of the forested hills and the ocean front. The roof is constructed of Douglas Fir glulam rafters are set precisely to create an organic curving roofline. The featured entry way is built using red cedar on the walls and trim. The beautifully accented Douglas fir pivot door, trim, and facia on the inside and outside of the home are protected with two coats of SDF – Natural Cedar.

Revelstoke Mountain Retreat is nestled at the foot of Mount Mackenzie in Revelstoke, British Columbia. This private retreat demonstrates craftmanship while radiating warmth in its alpine setting. The quality timber supplied by Canadian Timberframes compliment the mountains and towering evergreen forest. The interior and exterior timbers’ character is enhanced and protected with two coats of Sansin SDF in a custom color. Sansin SDF is a penetrating finish for exterior and interior wood surfaces. SDF provides tough, effective protection with specially formulated oils and resins that penetrate the wood. SDF provides water resistance, and UV protection as a water-borne, low-VOC technology.

Sansin partner Iron Lotus Painting Ltd. recently completed a full exterior restoration of the Canadian Mountain Holidays Monashee Lodge. The lodge was previously coated in a solvent-based finish. To adhere to the previous coating and add durability and beauty, they selected Sansins’ ENS finish system. ENS enhanced the woods character in the colors Espresso on the siding, and Golden Wheat on the timbers. ENS was selected to stand up to the mountain climate “We strictly use Sansin for all our exterior wood applications,” says Iron Lotus Painting Owner, Melody Jean. “Our environment is harsh and known to be like a rain forest. As we move away from solvent-based products, we turn to Sansin’s water-borne formulas that add value to each project. Our clients love it”, says Jean.

Nestled in San Diego, the Tetra I by Polythaus stands as a striking proof of concept: a 540 sq. foot accessory dwelling unit (ADU) originating from an innovative approach to housing design and construction efficiency. Co-founded by Daniel Lopez-Perez and Celine Vargas, Polyhaus was launched with a simple but ambitious mission to accelerate housing supply growth using a patented rapid-construction system that scales beautifully and sustainably. From the earliest stages, Tetra I Polyhaus was protected with Sansin Precision Coat KP-12, a durable penetrating coating designed to protect exposed mass timber during the construction phase. Inside, the cross laminated timber, supplied by Vaagen Timbers is finished with PC Glacier Gloss, a crystal-clear finish, followed by a final sheen of PC Glacier Low Luster. Sansin was applied to balance the natural beauty of the wood with a durable surface, offering long lasting protection.

Horseshoe Bay’s Boat House serves a practical purpose while inspiring the community, offering a warm welcome to visitors. FraserWood fabricated the glulam and heavy timber which had to be barged into the site given its challenging location in Horseshoe Bay, BC. Precision Coat KP-12 protects the wooden beams, railings, and decking during construction. The architectural coating system used included Precision Coat KP-30 in a penetrating, custom color and Precision Coat KP-32 topcoat to provide extra durability.

In the Dutch development of De Plukhoeve, M3 Architects designed the homes to enhance the existing village ambiance through distinguished shapes and proportions. Each residence features a distinct main house, extension, and annex that are unified by a prominent sloping roof. To preserve the natural beauty of the Finnish spruce cladding, sourced through Sansin partner Leegwater, Sansin Precision Coat KP-30 was applied in RAL1011, RAL1019, RAL7021, RAL7022 and RAL8025 color. This choice underscores the project’s commitment to natural beauty and durability.

A shining example of a horse barn serves a distinct purpose while looking beautiful in Thurmont, Maryland. This barn is wrapped with porches on each side to create outdoor stalls. To help the exterior wood to stand up to the elements, the cypress wood and white pine are protected and beautified with two coats of Sansin SDF in Roasted Almond. The trim is accented with SDF cocoa for a striking contrast. “I trust Sansins products to give this barn longevity,” says Steven Fisher, owner of Conowingo Builders. “We wanted to apply a coating that is known for its durable performance, making Sansin my top choice. SDF offered beautiful transparency as well.” Since 1986, Sansin has focused on researching and developing the most beautiful, most durable, and sustainable wood coatings.
